Apa and Dawa attend a climate rally in front of the European Parliament Get warm Welcome from the people of Brussels

Brussels, Belgium- After massive success in their visits to Prague, Bratislava, London, Rome, Geneva, Chamonix, and Vienna, the Climate for Life Ambassadors continued onwards to the Belgian Capital of Brussels. There, as everywhere else, they were warmly welcomed by the people of the city.

Marching with KathmandutoCopenhagen messageThey attended several functions including the Inaugural Event of the Climate Express at the Brussels Railway station and saw off the Train to Copenhagen which carried Jim Leape, Director General, WWF International and several others participating in a 12-hr. rolling conference on Climate Change.


Later that day, the Ambassadors along with several staff members of WWF Belgium and the WWF European Policy Office participated at a rally organized by all green groups including WWF to put pressure on leaders at Copenhagen. The rally was attended by some 13,000 city dwellers of Brussels. It was a very festive occasion with even one of the crown princes of Belgium participating.

At the function, Dawa Steven Sherpa gave a brilliant speech in front of the European Parliament Building, with Apa Sherpa next to him. They got a huge applause from the people and huge interest from the media giving back-to-back interviews to many media houses including CNN.

Now the duo are off to Paris where they will present to the French government a memento containing a piece of rock from Mt. Everest addressed to French President Nicolas Sarkozy by Nepali PM Madhav Kumar Nepal.
