On the occasion of World Biodiversity Day 2009, WWF, in collaboration with local partners and Eco-Club networks, is jointly organizing Eco Summit 2009 at Chitwan on 22 – 23 May 2009. Altogether 600 participants from more than 400 Eco Clubs will participate in the Summit.
The Summit, which is a part of the Climate for Life Campaign, will have participants from the entire country, from Far West Nepal--Kanchanpur to Far East Nepal--Taplejung and also from Mount Everest region--Solukhumbu to Terai region--Bardiya.
Formation of Eco Club is one of the conservation education programs of WWF Nepal. Eco Club is an independent group of students working collectively to support the conservation of natural and cultural environment in their respective schools and communities. Altogether 463 Eco Clubs have been formed in 22 districts.
The summit will be organized to strengthen relationship between the young people of the country who will form the conservation ambassadors of future Nepal. This kind of assembly may culminate to the formation of functional youth group dedicated in conservation. These dedicated people may form a youth who cares for environment, biodiversity and nature eventually forming into GREEN YOUTH.
The Summit will include a series of activities including expert presentations, cultural shows, rallies, street plays among others. The event co-organizers include Environment Conservation Teacher Forum, School Environment Conservation Education Network, Nepal (SENSE-Nepal) and Eco Club Network Nawalparasi.
